We had the pleasure of attending Ultimate Combat Fighting‘s “Nuclear Blast” event this past Saturday. The event could have been called “Fun in the Sun”, because it was just that. I (T.J.) was a referee for this wonderful event alongside Mr. Keith Dozeman (AKA Keith Creme). The lovely and oh-so-talented Shannon Hale was on timekeeper patrol. The event was outdoors and the day was as nice as you could ask for. The show started at 2:00pm, which was a nice change because there was still time to enjoy a bit of daylight after a great day of battles. Here are your results…

Genesis FC had over 950 people at the Gibraltar Trade Center on Saturday night. 18 fights in all for the night, and almost half of them were title fights. The referees in charge of the action and the safety of the fighters were pro fighters Chuck Mady, Ben Lagman and Scott Bickerstaff. On the mic, pumping the crowd and introducing the fighters: Phil “The Voice” Davey. Judging the action (including a 5-round decision for a title belt) were FightMichigan’s own T.J. Corwin, Nate Patrick, and Rob Ross. If you weren’t there you missed out on some awesome fights. Good thing we took notes! Keep reading to find out who kept their belts and who’s gonna have to try to get theirs back!

As always, we apologize if anyone’s name is spelled wrong. Please let us know in the comments, and we’ll get it fixed.

We had the pleasure of attending Adrenalin Fight League’s second show at the Dow Event Center in Saginaw this weekend. It was a barn-burner to say the least! There was a little bit of everything, with the night ending with a precision knock out. What more could you want? The Dow Event Center is the perfect venue for such an event, with its theatre hall seating arrangement. Lighting up the night and delivering the goods was M.C. extraordinaire and friend of FightMichigan, Phil “The Voice” Davey. The referee for the event was Michigan Pro Fighter, trainer and color commentator, Harley “The Swede” Wallen. This show was a lot of fun and a sign of great things to come. Keep an eye on this promotion, folks! Here are your results…

The Optimist Ice arena in Jackson was packed to the max for Amateur Combat Sport’s second show – Meltdown at the Optimist. The show started off loud and proud with a local metal band – The Anarchy. These guys sounded great! The crowd was off the chain. I can honestly say, this was the loudest bunch of fans we have seen. Also in attendance, along with FightMichigan and the rabid fans, were Genesis FC‘s Josh “Rage” Lawrence, Ron DeLeon, GPP‘s Paul Simpson (representing the Ellison Foundation) and Team Rock Boss‘s Rocky Parks. Shannon and myself (T.J.) were judging along side Mr. DeLeon, and the timekeeper was the lovely Ashley Nugent for this amazing event. Congrats to promoter Jason Stoner for putting together another top-notch show! Here are your results…

Fight Michigan witnessed history in the making last weekend with Warrior Xtreme Cagefighting at the Yack Arena. Pete Trevino Jr., Fight Announcer and friend of Fight Michigan, has developed Tap-Team MMA, and you’ve almost gotta see it to believe it. You put that together with the matchmaking talent of Dave Chambers, the promotional wizardry of Jeff Pitock, and well over 800 people in the crowd, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a cagefighting event. Michigan Combat Photography‘s Chris Rabior was there, and was generous enough to send us a photo gallery, which you can see after the jump, along with the results, and everything you want to know about Tap-Team MMA!

Ground and Pound Promotions returned to the Comstock Inn in Owosso for another phenomenal night of action. If you haven’t seen this venue for yourself, it is an interesting setup. In addition to all of the cageside seating and general admission, there are 3 stories of hotel rooms overlooking 2 sides of the cage, plus a 3rd story hall with a huge bay window to provide spectators with an excellent view of the action.

This night had a little something for everyone…knock outs, submissions and 3 big title fights. There were a lot of fighter awards, plus free tickets to GPP’s next show and a ton of merchandise giveaways. These guys go all out to take care of their fighters and their fans…that is for sure. Yours truly was the referee for most of the action, and from where I was standing, it was a great event all across the boards. With that said, here are your results… Read the rest of this entry…

Spartan Cage Combat and Town and Country Harley-Davidson presented the “Fight for Freedom” event in Cement City on the day before the Fourth of July. The patriotic stage was set with red blood, white hand wraps and blue skies! The pre-fight festivities kicked off early with a hot dog eating contest and a bikini contest. The cage was set up outdoors under a wooden pavilion. The weather was perfect and the breeze was refreshing. The guest referees included Travis Travesty and King of the Cage, UFC and Pride FC fighter James “Superman” Lee. The MC for this event was the lovely (and lethal) lady boxing phenom Kara “KO” Ro. Tommy Troyer has already set up and begun working on a second event in August at this entertaining venue. We will be releasing more info on that as it becomes available. Here are your results…

Combat X stormed back on the local MMA scene with Combat X 20 – Attack at the Yack. The Yack Arena in Wyandotte was an awesome venue for such an event. There were a series of setbacks on the fight card due to some shady dealings and fight camps pulling out, but Combat X matchmaker extraordinaire Mike Akers pulled off a miracle at the last minute and put together a very solid fight card. Phil “The Voice” Davey was in the house pumping the crowd and delivering the goods on the mic. Two of the judges were Genesis FC’s promoters (and friends of FightMichigan) Josh “Rage” Lawrence and Terry Bertrand. Also in attendance were Fight XC’s promoter Norbert Pasztor and Amateur Combat Sports promoter Jason Stoner. This event also marked the final cage fight for a man who is a familiar face in the local scene…Phil “Slam” Ferney. Also appearing on the card were renowned local fighters like Adam “The Joker” Trombley, Ivan Wolshlager, Hector Garcia, George “of the Jungle” Snedden, Ray “The War Machine” Rocheleau and Johnny Shasteen. It was a very entertaining and interesting night of fight action. And, as always, Combat X’s promoter John Poe showed the crowd the work ethic that makes Combat X such a class act. Ground and Pound Promotions descended upon the Rivertown Sports Complex again this weekend for GPP-XV in Grandville, MI. Seventeen amazing cagefights included two title fights, and stands full of eager MMA fans. FightMichigan was there to chronicle the wins and the losses. Also in attendance was FightMichigan’s good friend, Jeff “Shooter” Graham of Rings Radio. And, I’d also like to mention that this is the first time we’ve ever seen a female referee at an event in Michigan. Working alongside Keith Dozeman, was Jamie Lange, doing a fine job of keeping the fighters safe and keeping things fair in the cage! Jamie, you’re making women involved with MMA proud. Keep up the good work. And now, without further ado, here are your results:

Fight Michigan’s good friend and phenomenal cageside interviewer, Marc Oppenheimer, graciously kicks ass and takes names! In other words, he made it out to Capital City Cagefighting Championship‘s event last Saturday, and took some notes so we could pass the event results along to you. Here are Marc’s notes:
