Spartan Cage Combat and Town and Country Harley-Davidson presented the “Fight for Freedom” event in Cement City on the day before the Fourth of July. The patriotic stage was set with red blood, white hand wraps and blue skies! The pre-fight festivities kicked off early with a hot dog eating contest and a bikini contest. The cage was set up outdoors under a wooden pavilion. The weather was perfect and the breeze was refreshing. The guest referees included Travis Travesty and King of the Cage, UFC and Pride FC fighter James “Superman” Lee. The MC for this event was the lovely (and lethal) lady boxing phenom Kara “KO” Ro. Tommy Troyer has already set up and begun working on a second event in August at this entertaining venue. We will be releasing more info on that as it becomes available. Here are your results…

I was at the event and the first match he did not get knocked out and in the 2nd fight tomasik had him in a choke and the ref stood them up so i decided to leave because i could tell how the rest of the fights were going to go
I figure if Mike didn’t tap if he had him in a choke then it really wasn’t a choke, was it?
For all of the hype that this was given, I expected a lot more than six fights, and I expected them to last a lot longer than they did, but that you can blame on poor matchmaking. Can’t say I’m too eager to give these guys another chance, but I probably will if they can manage a decent card next time.
We were told a lot of people never showed up.
Well, I am not sure how many shows you have been to in Michigan, Critic but in the amatuer ranks its hard to make sure Amatuers are matched evenly because you never know which ones that call the matchmaker about fighting are actually training. The 6 fights was dissappointing, but the event was for chariety and I heard they raised about 500-600 for the disabled american veterans which was the number one goal to help the Vets out. I think the 4th od July weekend hurt attendance for both the fans and the fighters. I know the promoter had more then 6 fights set up because i saw the orginal card, but to many people backing out last minute, other promoters trying pulls fighters off the card to stab people in the back, just a total lack of respect for the chariety event for the DAV, no matter who threw the show. I give hats off to Spartan Caged Combat for trying to help the Vets, because there doesnt seem to be alot of other people that do.
Is that the whole card?
I would like my money refunded for that MMA show They can keep part of it to give to the Vets but for ticket price was not worth the 12 mins of fighting that went on in the cage.
I know that their were more people on the card and tommy did his best for what he had and as far as all the fighters who backed out at the last min well I guess I don’t have to say anything. I’m glad they made some cash for the vet’s and the show in August will be better find me a fight Tommy …..
Yeah Josh i am looking for a fight for you bro and I have a couple people in mind just waiting on them to confirm.
GREAT CAUSE BUT..
NEWS FLASH THE FOURTH OF JULY IS THE SAME TIME EVERY YEAR ON THE FOURTH OF JULY! So let’s get rid of that excuse. Why plan on that week end? Fighters back out of fights all the time they have jobs and family just like the rest of us. So why not book 30 fights knowing 1/2 will back out so then you will have 15 fights… maybe?
I went to a open house this weekend 100 people invited do you think they had a 100 hot dogs? its not rocket science OVER STACK YOUR CARD.
Well the shameful part is the fighters backing out last minute, in other states that wouldnt happen, Michigan needs to adopt the regulations like Ohio has that if you agree to a bout you sign an agreement, then after that you back out 6 month ban from the sport. Last time I checked when you give you word to somebody it should mean something.
Yea I have to agree with the last guy. I mean like I think it’s retarded that people say i’ll go and they don’t show and then you got people that will come look you down and say no i dont want to fight because there afraid of losing I had so much fun for my fight it might have only been 1:12 seconds but I loved every moment of it thank you Tommy for giving me fight’s i cant wait for my next one
Amateurs are just that amateurs. You will see alot of guys backing out even when they are taped and ready to go. All you can do is try to do you best to put on a show for the fans. I give props for putting on a show for charity, it is not easy to do. Check out http://www.txclive.com for a good amateur show in michigan.
We’d like to thank Tommy Troyer for letting Rich and Joe sit ringside and add their twisted thoughts on MMA! We’re a shock-comedy show, not MMA hosts – but they sure had fun! Rich and Joe are both Vets, and were proud to be part of a charity event for the D.A.V. (Disabled American Veterans). We wish all the fighters, fans and promoters the best!
Thanks again,
