Fight Michigan was lucky enough to be seated cageside at King of the Cage on Friday night for Bad Boys II at Cobo Arena in downtown Detroit. The crowd could have been a little more plentiful and a little kinder – do you really think big names like UFC will ever come to the Motor City when they hear how the crowd booed just about everything at the King of the Cage show? Near the cage, the audience seemed to enjoy the show, but the folks in the stands were harsh.
In and around the cage, we were accompanied by some really big names in MMA like Guy Mezger, Maria Kenellis, Frank Trigg (commentating), and Michael “The Voice” Schiavello (also commentating). Our referees for the evening were Herb Dean, Cecil Peoples, and the more locally familiar faces: Brian Beauchamp and Marc Fennell.
The undercard went pretty quick. The longest of the first four fights was 1 minute 38 seconds into the first round. The main event (Jake Rosholt vs. Jeremy Horn) was canceled due to a neck injury to Jake Rosholt that occured while training on Friday, and another fight was canceled due to injury. Despite the hurdles, King of the Cage pulled off a pretty amazing show with some spectacular local talent. Fight Michigan was highly entertained, to say the least.

On Saturday January 23rd, the city of Kalamazoo was shaken to its foundations by Lightning Kicks‘ second installment – Rumble in the Zoo II. Promoter/matchmaker Amir Khillah did a phenomenal job of both coordinating the event and putting together a great fight card. I don’t recall seeing an entire event where the match-ups were so equal and balanced. The talent pool was deep, with some of the most prestigious gyms around the state showcasing their talents. Referees Marc Fennel and MMA seasoned veteran Jeremy Horn kept the fights fair and safe. Here are your results:
