Michigan Xtreme Combat – MXC VIII – Results from November 12th, 2011

Michigan Xtreme Combat held their eighth star-studded event at the Cedar Rock Sportsplex in Cedar Springs this past Saturday night, and once again, the house was packed with fans who came out to see their favorite local bad boys put it all on the line. Promoter Shane Martin (and trainer at American Muscle MMA) has a LOT of experience in the MMA world, and it shows in each and every MXC event. FightMichigan wasn’t able to make it in person this time around, but thanks ONCE AGAIN to the unwavering dedication to Michigan MMA on the part of Dave “The Butcher” Clifford, we are able to bring you coverage of this phenomenal event! Special thanks to Dave from FightMichigan – and the ENTIRE MMA community – for helping us to expand our coverage like never before!

The night kicked off with two fights in the 135 pound division in a tournament to determine who would go on to face Team Savage‘s Darryol Humphery for his Bantamweight title on MXC’s next card on December 10th. Fans were brought to their feet right from the very first fight of the night, when Brandon Powers knocked out Roger “The Dentist” Carpenter at about halfway through the first round in their semi-final matchup. What a way to start a show! The second fight of the tournament bracket pitted Jordan “Country Boy” Guthrie against cage veteran Joel “The Prodigy” Paasch. These two tussled through the first two rounds with non-stop aggression. Early on in round three, Jordan took the back and sunk in a fight-ending rear naked choke for the win and to advance to the finals to face Brandon Powers in the Co-Main event of the evening. In another contender fight, this time in the Featherweight division, Ryan Zinski took on challenger Joey Ball for the opportunity to face current champion, Roman Kaat, for the MXC 145 pound title on December 10th. Ryan was able to finish the fight late in the first round, and as a result, will be getting the aforementioned title shot. In the fifteenth fight of the night, Tom DeLeon and Cody Woodring went to WAR. This battle raged on continuously through the ENTIRE fight, when with only ten seconds left, Tom landed a CRUSHING spinning back kick that cracked his opponent’s ribs, causing him to have to tap out. Amazing! Getting back to the Bantamweight tournament – and the Co-Main event of the evening, previous bracket winners Jordan “Country Boy” Guthrie and Brandon Powers faced off against each other. Jordan was able to lock down his SECOND victory of the night via guillotine choke in round two, and has earned the right to face current champ Darryol Humphrey at the next event. In the main event of the evening, it was a short-but-sweet battle of the Light Heavyweights, as David Guajardo Jr. put his MXC 205 pound championship on the line against Victor “Bonecrusher” Jones. Victor was able to withstand several HARD shots from Guajardo very early on, but pushed on to get the takedown and unleashed a brutal flurry of ground and pound that forced the referee to stop the contest at barely over a minute into the first – and final round. Jones walks away from the battle as the NEW MXC Light Heavyweight champion. Congratulations to Victor and ALL of the warriors who came out to be a part of this STELLAR event!

On to the cast and crew who make things happen – the staff. The man in charge of the action (referee) for the event was Michigan pro fighter Bowe Vincent Jr., being relieved on occasion throughout the night by ammy bad boy Mike Childs. Running things at the cage door was another heavy-handed ammy fighter, Ramon Pacheco. Joel Vincent and Allana Jones did an EXCELLENT job of staging and prepping the fighters. Shane Martin‘s wife, Shanda Martin, also did a knockout job of coordinating the event. A shout goes out to the lovely MXC ring girls – Nicole, Renee, Destiny, and Cassie. Validation Fight Wear was also in the house with a killer selection of MMA merchandise, and graciously allowed the Disabled American Veterans to set up their donation booth at their table. Whatta guy! Last, and MOST DEFINITELY NOT LEAST, was your experienced M.C. for the night and Michigan MMA guru, the man who makes most of our coverage of the great north possible, FightMichigan friend (and hero) Dave “The Butcher” Clifford. Seriously…we can’t say enough about how much you do for the sport and how much we ALL appreciate it!

Michigan Xtreme Combat will be back in the same venue – the Cedar Rock Sportsplex – on December 10th, 2011 with another excellent roster of top ammy talent. Don’t miss this next chapter in the ongoing saga of MMA excitement…delivered to you MXC style. We’ll have all the details for ya as soon as they become available, so stay tuned and check back often!
