As far as we’re concerned, Ron DeLeon put together the best fight card he’s ever had for last Friday night’s Season’s Beatings show at the Lansing Center. It was action packed, unpredictable and had us on the edge of our seats the entire time. Perfect records were tarnished, belts exchanged hands, and tears and blood were shed. Half the time it was hard to know who to cheer for, with some of our favorite fighters being matched up with each other. The matchmaker was definitely on point for this show. Here are your results. GWO MMA hosted their second event at the Whiskey Barrel Saloon in Lansing, MI last Sunday. The fight card listed 12 fights, including a four-man tournament ending in a Bantamweight qualifying match. GWO MMA gets better with every show, and their next event is going to be on December 18th, so keep checking back. We’ll have information for that one as the date approaches.
Your referee for the evening was Justin Houghton, whose amateur career is going to come to an end early next year. A video was produced for the event by Crossroad Productions. They might still have copies for sale if you contact bradleyseely(at)yahoo(dot)com.

On Saturday November 14th, we had the pleasure of attending a wonderful event at Big House Boxing and MMA Gym in Lansing. There were several things that stood out that made this a great show. To start, the matches took place in a ring instead of a cage. This is the first event in Michigan we have attended that used a ring instead of a cage. The ring sat low to the floor, providing an excellent view of the action to all in attendance. The venue itself was very accommodating considering it’s normally a boxing gym, and the show was masterfully coordinated. The continuity of the show was great, hardly a single break in the action, aside from the scheduled intermission. Also, there were a variety of match types, which was also a first. Some matches were striking only, some were MMA with protective gear, and some were standard MMA rules. This made for some great matches, allowed the fighters to stick to their specialties, and gave fighters a chance to fight with protective gear if they chose. The gym’s owner, Carl Hatley, was very hospitable and aproachable.
Big House Boxing and MMA is located at 1131 May St. Lansing, MI. The gym is well-equipped and offers boxing, Muay Thai, wrestling and Jiu Jitsu. There is a wide variety of fighters and trainers in house to suit all of your training needs. And as I mentioned earlier, gym owner Carl Hatley is a very likeable and helpful guy. Check ‘em out!

Last Sunday I went to the Whiskey Barrel Saloon in Lansing, MI for Go Work Out Gym’s Barn Burner event. This was their first show, and it was definitely a top-notch production. The Sound system sounded great, the lights looked great and they had a velvet-rope entrance for the fighters. There were also two 50-inch LCD televisions awarded for best knock out of the show and best submission of the show.
Justin Houghton (who holds several belts from several promotions) refereed all the matches. It’s obvious that Justin has a deep love for the sport, and as much as I love to see him fight, it was fun to see him referee as well. This was definitely the best way I can think of to have spent a Sunday afternoon at a country bar.

Tickets are $20 general admission and $40 for VIP seats. Jerry Adcock will be fighting as well as Josh Kosic; Kory Wertz will be up against Derek Freeman. It sounds like it’s going to be a good show. Ron DeLeon’s Capital City Cage Fight Championships on September 26, 2009, was absolutely his best show yet. The weatherman was calling for thunderstorms, and I know Ron was prepared for that, but the weather held off and the tent at Hooter’s was packed. There were 15 awesome fights including five title matches. Here are the results:
