New World Karate and Fitness‘s Master Zack Burns (who just won the Impact Fight League Welterweight championship on October 22nd…congratulations!) and Big John’s MMA‘s Big John Yeubanks joined forces to present their latest cage fight offering – Champions Collide II. The Treetops Resort Convention Center in Gaylord, Michigan was the sight of this great event where dreams were both made and broken – where an A-list of northern talent came to Oakleys sunglasses Outlet demonstrate their skills for the crowd in attendance. Out of the many warriors who came out to showcase their skills, there were some new faces as well as a LOT of wily veterans. Out of those new faces, Mary Jane Matlock, who is new to the fight side of things but NOT new to the MMA scene, made her cage debut against the game Myndi Collins. These ladies fought back and forth until late in the second round, when Mary Jane took the back for a rear naked choke tap out and her first victory. And she’s already on the hunt for win number 2, with a fight already scheduled for November 12th. Jesse Armstrong and Nick Oliver waged WAR in a battle that threatened to go to the judges score cards, when late in the final round, Jesse pulled off a slick submission for the tap out and the win. Congrats to both warriors on a tough fight! Congrats to Sheena on the win and best wishes to Sabrina for a speedy and complete recovery! From there, it was on to the TITLE FIGHTS. First up was a Welterweight showdown featuring Korey “Showtime” Kuppe defending the belt against the always-dangerous Ashtray Patterson. The two combatants fought tooth and nail until late in the second round, when Korey was finally able to get the submission victory and retain the title. Next up, it was a battle for the vacant NWK Bantamweight title. Anthony Nitecki and David Wujek faced off to see which one would emerge the NEW champion. This particular night belonged to Anthony, who got the tap out only a couple minutes into the fight, securing the 135 pound belt firmly around his waist. Moving up to the Heavyweight division, Zach “Bloodbath” McRath defended his NWK title against Brandon Schauer. Zach solidified his continuing reign at about two and a half minutes into the first round, forcing his opponent to tap out and retaining the Heavyweight gold. Closing out this excellent night of action was a Lightweight shootout for the NWK 155 pound Interim title. Konnor Kuppe put it all on the line against a tough opponent, Mitch Dutko. Konnor brought his A-game, ending the fight with a tap out in UNDER a minute. Not only did Konnor lock down the Interim strap with this victory, but he also locked down the shot at the Unified belt against cage fighting phenom Gabe Howard at an upcoming event.
